Seven day opening at John Lewis
The John Lewis Cribbs Causeway Steering Group wanted to make a big splash to announce their introduction of seven-day trading. The consultancy produced a document detailing costs and layouts of large format interior and exterior banners and a 50,000 run of leaflets. In addition, a method statement was prepared for the Partnership’s health and safety officers by the banner installation team.
Banner artwork was created in Adobe Illustrator and the main double-sided 18 metre long banners were produced on an Oce Arizona Digital Screen Press.
An abseiling team from Cumbria worked through the night to install the main banners in the escalator well and at the entrance to the perfumery department.
Similar procedures were used again a few months later at the Solihull branch of John Lewis when it, too, switched to seven-day trading.

Wine labels for Laymont & Shaw
Truro-based wine merchant Laymont & Shaw wanted exclusive labels for Waitrose and Tesco against tight deadlines. Artwork was created in QuarkXpress, and Acrobat PDF screen proofs were emailed to the client and the Wine Standards Board for approval. Hard copy colour mock-ups were produced and shown to the supermarket wine buyers.
Once signed-off, high-resolution reproduction quality Acrobat PDFs of the label artwork were successfully emailed to printers in Uruguay and Spain.

Recruitment ads for Royal Mail
Scores of staff recruitment press advertisements were produced in QuarkXpress, and Acrobat PDF screen proofs sent to Royal Mail Communications Services for client checking. Once approved, artwork was delivered via AdFast, the internet delivery system to regional newspapers.
AdFast addresses the logistical challenges for all involved in advertisement placement. Being highly accurate, efficient and fast, this unique facility resolves issues of loose logos and fonts, ensures excellent print quality in mono and colour, and ensures accurate placement in more than 2,000 participating regional newspapers.

Opinion-former newsletter for Royal Mail in Wales
To provide a communication channel with Welsh Assembly members, MPs and the media during a period of national negative media coverage, the Royal Mail head of external relations in Wales commissioned this simple, but highly effective newsletter.
Using low-cost digital printing, the four-page newsletter was produced on a Xerox 5252 Digital Press in a ‘twist and turn’ format to provide both English and Welsh versions of the publication. News items were sourced and written by the client, with publication and distribution taking less than a week from start to finish.

Management training exercises for Northgate Training
Wine Bar was a training product requiring trainers’ notes, participants’ folders and a mailing piece to potential customers.
The entire project not only consisted of creating a brand identity, design and artwork for the various elements, but also the purchasing and management of the printing of the package, and the fulfilment and mailing of a marketing flyer.
Central to an introductory offer was a free case of wine. Again, this was sourced, purchased and dispatched by the consultancy on the client’s behalf.

Internal Communications for the BBC and TV Licensing
This year-long campaign, which won the silver award for Best Internal Communications Campaign at the IPR Cream Awards in 2002, was a motivational communications activity for staff working at TV Licensing.
Each month a new montage was created with Adobe Photoshop using various stills from different BBC TV programmes that included The Vicar of Dibley, Ab Fab and Dr Who.
The monthly performance results of TV Licensing call centres, from around the country, were featured on posters which proved so popular many of the staff even took them home!
